In the last blog entry in this series of "Images of Bangkok" we look at a cross-section of the people, architecture and landscapes of this amazing city.
Accommodation in Bangkok ranges from shanties to luxury condos, with most people living in basic apartment buildings. The first photo show a pretty typical average Thai apartment. With a coat of paint they would look much better! I like the second photo because it shows a variety of different places; the old house in the front, a fancy condo behind it and high rises in the background. The third of the photos below gives a good idea of what most of Bangkok looks like.
Although the country is overwhelmingly Buddhist, there are a few mosques around too. If there is a strong wind blowing from the east I can sometimes hear the call to prayer (not so welcome if it is the early morning call!)
The residents of Bangkok work long hours in a variety of job, some of which are shown below. The BTS employs quite a few people. Each train platform has two guards to blow a whistle when the train is approaching. One of the more dangerous jobs is that of the traffic cop - not only avoiding getting run over but apparently many of them suffer from serious lung problems from breathing in the traffic pollution. I love the brooms that the street sweepers use - they actually work quite well and beat those noisy, environmentally awful blowers now so popular back home.
Then a lot of the population run their own businesses, like the shop owners and the motorbike taxi drivers.
There is beauty to be seen in Bangkok and places to get away from the noise and the fumes. The blog ends with a few images to show it!
